Ok...Seems like you have already prepared all the stuff needed for the hike but these are also some things you need to know to make sure your Kawah  Ijen tour is more safe and comfortable.

A narrow path to get to the bottom of the crater
1. Remove Jewelry & Eye Lens
You will visit the most acidic volcano in Indonesia, it produce sulfur material and gas. Sulfur will make anything containing any metal contain stuff easily get rusted. It is also affected by any electronic device like a camera and smartphone, so bringing a protector is better (like a waterproof bag for a smartphone). Meanwhile, the acid sulfur gas will easily cause irritation when it gets into your eyes and It will cause any jewelry to turn black color.

2. Be Respectful To The Miners
The is only one way to get to Kawah Ijen, from the starting point until going to the blue flame spot. There is no special track for tourists, visitors need to share the same path with the miner. Please give them more respect, by doing these simple ways :

  • Stop for a while and let them go first, they are carrying 80 Kg of sulfur rocks on their shoulders. The path is narrow, it won't fit for 2 persons passing.
  • Ask for their permission before stopping them to take pictures of them, remember they are not a tourist attraction. They are also human, so be more respectful to them.
  • Do not disturb their work, when you are at the crater bottom give more space for the miners to do their work instead of disturbing them only for taking blue flame photos.
3. Follow Your Tour Guide Advice
For your own safety please be careful and always follow your tour guide's advice because he knows very well the place like his own play yard. Most of the accidents at Kawah Ijen occurred due to behaving carelessly.

Buy a sulfur souvenir, is worth it..?

Frankly speaking, NO. It is useless. The souvenirs are made of hardened molten sulfur, it is really fragile (easily broken). Sulfur is considered a dangerous chemical material, you can not take it on a flight. But if you want to contribute to the local economy, you can buy one of the souvenirs. It is better way I think compared to giving money directly to the miners. Some of tourists give them a pack of cigarettes which makes it even worse.

Coffee, snack, and meal

Don't worry about getting hungry, at the parking area there few local shops selling snacks, coffee, and local food for breakfast. Even there are some locals who offer to rent gas masks, jackets, and hiking sticks. There is also a local shop selling gloves, hats, and rain coats when needed.

Can we stop over at the spots on the way back..?

Yes, we can stop at the nearby attractions on the way back to Kawah Ijen. It will be FREE as long as it is still the same route and not taking a long time.

Drop off place & time

We will drop you off back at the same hotel at around 9 AM, make sure you request your hotel to provide breakfast when you arrive back from Kawah Ijen. Another option is asking the hotel to provide a takeaway breakfast before you leave for Kawah Ijen tour.

Is that possible to drop off at the train station and how much..?
Yes, it is possible. We can drop you off right at the train station for FREE, in condition you directly check out and pack your bags. We will keep your bags in the car during the hike, directly drop you off at the train station.
